A reported 107,000 hospitality roles vacant. What’s the solution and how can Talent Hive help?

Despite a tumultuous few years for the UK’s third biggest sector, the resilience of the hospitality profession has shone through, and it’s thriving once again – set to contribute 29 billion to the UK economy by 2027.

As a result, the industry has seen a 9.5% increase in staff wages, so in theory there’s no better time to join or return to a role in hospitality. But, in reality the staffing challenges have never been more acute, with 15% more vacancies across the industry compared to pre-pandemic levels.

The pandemic, Brexit, national living wage increases coupled with the cost-of-living crisis and shifts in consumer confidence have all had an impact on recruitment within hospitality professions. This has meant that whilst consumer demand is there, venues can find themselves running below capacity or spreading themselves thin and risking customer experience.

But, whilst it is absolutely challenging for venues trying to plug the skills shortfall, what is encouraging is that hospitality is ripe for growth and is well placed to kickstart a career. And although admittedly entry level roles can start at the lower end of the pay scale, progression can be rapid and a there are a whole world of opportunities available to someone passionate about the profession.

And that’s where Talent Hive can help. We understand that recruitment isn’t just a tick box exercise and finding the right candidates can be a long and stressful process. We know that employing the wrong people is time consuming, costly and can have a detrimental impact on overall team morale, but not when you work with Talent Hive. For us, personality, working style and ambition are all important factors that go above and beyond a candidate’s CV. Only by integrating these characteristics into our recruitment process can we correctly judge which roles and which applicants are best suited to each other.

Long term not only is our goal to make recruitment more enjoyable for hospitality venues, but help reposition the perceptions of hospitality professions as ones full of lucrative and rewarding career opportunities.
